Christopher Umana
Chris Umana is a co-founder and member of Umana Law LLC and has been a business and securities lawyer since 1993. His practice focuses on representation of:
•Large and small, public and private businesses in connection with mergers and acquisitions, financings, drafting and negotiating licensing, product purchase and sale and other business and commercial agreements, and entity formation
•Investors in connection with debt and equity financings
•Businesses as an “outsourced” general counsel
•Executives in connection with employment, severance and retention agreements
Mr. Umana has served as counsel for clients engaged in a broad range of industries, including software, Internet, contracting and construction, consulting, services, manufacturing and retail.
Prior to forming Umana Law LLC, Mr. Umana was a co-founder and partner of Gehrke & Umana LLP, a business and general corporate law “boutique” firm, served as General Counsel, Vice President of Business Development and Secretary of deNovis, Inc., a private venture-backed developer of health care claims processing software, and served as Associate General Counsel of CMGI, Inc., a publicly traded provider of technology and e-commerce solutions. Mr. Umana also practiced as a Junior Partner in the corporate department of Hale and Dorr LLP (predecessor to WilmerHale LLP) and as an attorney in the corporate and tax departments of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP, both of which are nationally recognized law firms.
Mr. Umana received a J.D. degree from Boston College Law School in 1993, where he was editor-in-chief of the Uniform Commercial Code Reporter-Digest. In 1990, he received a B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University’s School of Business Administration, where he concentrated in accounting.
Mr. Umana is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is a member of the American and Boston Bar Associations.
